Gauging Generations
This comic is based off of my experience working at a body jewelry store for a few months (back in the days of retail). I realize that the term “gaugers” has just been accepted into common terminology now but it never ceased to irk me every time a 12 year old with a pencil shoved in their ear came into the store and started blabbing about their plans for “gauging” their ears. I know this is more of a personal shot at those kids and some people may not appreciate my point of view on the subject, but I’ve always wanted to express my thoughts on the subject so I figured this was as good a way as any.

I understood nothing of that, but the last panel was funny.

I threw that last joke in there just in case people had never heard this lingo before.

That was too funny, shows that people definitely have to increase their vocabulary.

Makes you want to gouge out their ears doesn’t it.

While I DID understand the comic the punchline at the end was awesome AND accurate. Noone under the age of 21 wears a watch these days because the time is right on their hot lil smartphone.
Sadly I am guilty of this phenomenon as I have not had a new watch since my binary watch zero bit for the hour burnt out. *sadface*

Well, watches may make a comeback as smartphone remotes. There’s a Kickstarter for one that’s gone over 10 million.
Just goes to show that people have become so lazy that taking their phone out of their pocket is too much of an effort.

Barnum was right “There’s one born every minute, and two to take him.”
Wristwatches have faded away due to the functionality of mobile phones, but someone’s managed to secure $10 million in crowdsourced financing for a project to essentially bring them back ‘repackaged’ as “smartphone remotes”? I’m really not trying hard enough…
Oh, and even phone-less me has a keychain fob-watch, since working in a kitchen I’m always washing my hands.

I’m 12 and I wear a watch…… I hate how tasteless my generation is.

HEY!!! I’m 15 and I wear a watch. Always have, mainly because my dad got tired of me asking what time it was every five seconds. Now, it is a digital watch, but still, it is a watch.

I’m 19 and not only do I wear a watch, I also swap it out for my pocket-watch sometimes (antique, owned by my great (great?) uncle Ivan)

Now see this is why i avoid talking to too many people. I dont speak the lingo anymore

My ears used to be all “Gauged out” but now I’m not even cool enough to use such incorrect terminology. I think it’s the hair. *shakes head*

My step-daughter “gauges” her ears but fails to “gauge” how gross I think that is. LOL

I’ve stretched my ears to 0g and I usually just keep a solid color plug in them so it looks like I’m just wearing a pair of round stud earrings. I like this size because I can shrink them down again if I want, but I can also wear pretty spiraled jewelry if I feel like it

pff, those teenagers nowdays, back in my day women were born with watches.

I’m glad I know this now. I’ve been using the wrong terms this whole time…Then again, it is what my parents always called it.

Well, it’s just been accepted as a term for stretching now. There is nothing I can do about it, it just irks me to hear it. Most professional piercers can’t stand the term either but they take the same stance I do and just accept it as common slang :/

Kinda makes you wanna punch them in the face huh?

I used to work at Culture Craze. It’s basically Canadian knock-off Hot Topic.

THANK YOU!
I mean my god!
I am always so irritated with those little pricks!
I did call it that at first but then I looked into it and that changed extremely quick.
