What They Say #8
Okay, I’m going to go on record here saying I don’t know shit for fuck about American politics… I’m Canadian. I don’t really need to know… but if I’ve learned anything it’s that they’re really good at using A LOT of words to say absolutely nothing. This comic was originally going to go up as a contest for the fans to write in the best punchline in the second panel that they could come up with because we had no idea what to write, BUT it was brought to our attention that it’s actually funnier with NOTHING in the speech bubbles. So That’s how it is. Happy election everyone, I’m headed back to Canada in less than a week ;P

Is it just me or does Obama kinda look like a monkey?
yes. I said that while I was drawing him… my roommate replied ” well YEAH… have you SEEN our president?”

It’s the ears, I tell ya.

As someone who shares Obama’s ears, I agree.
Also, they quite enjoy getting cold in the wind easily.

I’d just like to go on record by saying that I don’t know shit for fuck about American politics…and I’ve lived in the States my entire life.

I’m Canadian too (also from Victoria, woo!), and my knowledge of American politics starts and ends with Watergate. Modern politics just make me angry and depressed when I find out too much about it…

This is why I think we should replace the entire election process with some type of gladiatorial duel. If nothing else, we would at least be entertained.

All i hear from these two is more reasons to reclaim our bloody colonies I say!

You mean we’re not entertained by two grown men arguing with each other like twelve-year-olds?
Either way, I’ve taken the word origins approach to politics last few elections. See, it’s made up of “poly” (Latin for many) and “ticks” (English for blood-sucking creatures). Put them together…

You sir are a genius.

First, I’d like to say that those are the *best* comic art depictions of the two of them I’ve seen in a very long while. Well done!
Second, and just to be pushy, could you have swapped in Stephen Harper and Thomas Mulcair or any of the other Canadian party leaders and have the punchline (or lack thereof) be the same? Are you less or more invested in Canadian politics? Why or why not?
not less invested… so much as not exposed to them right now. I’ve been in LA for a few months now… also at the time the Canadian election was going on, I wasn’t as good of an artist so I don’t know that I could’ve drawn those two

Yes, further proof why I like the “What they say/mean” strips.
And I’d say, you nailed them, Ash, especially Romney.

Obviously this isn’t a place for political discussion, but I live In Ireland and am at least aware of what’s going on. Firstly, a madman is trying to become leader of your country (or the one you at least live in guys). Romney in power will not only be detrimental to the USA and lead to a lot of regression, but bad for the world too. Obama is a genuine guy who has done good and isn’t only there for the power, but to help the people. Romney believes God will guide him and make sure all his decisions are correct and also come back to Earth in the near future….. Yes, they may be saying empty things, but that is the game

And yet, Obama is doing stuff just as bad… And people are clueless… http://youtu.be/Skw-0jv9kts

Thats pretty much what i hear when someone talks about the Presidential candidates

Sorry- but your comment about how it doesn’t affect you much is erroneous. Who ever they elect has a tendency to impact canada directly- they are one of our largest trading partners and all you have to do is look at the oil industry, the port industries, and various proposed water rights agreements or proposals to see how directly their politics can affect us. But I do appreciate how much rhetoric american politics is
about 6 months ago
If you’re referring to my comments, I wasn’t trying to say it doesn’t affect me. Merely that, I cannot vote here legally so I don’t need to know all the little bits and pieces about each candidates campaigns cuz I don’t get a say in the election, that’s all.

And that’s what globalization has done to all of us… The stuff you have no say in can just as easily screw you over as the stuff you do have a say in.

ABSO–LUTELY PERFECT.
From here on in, anytime ANYONE tries to engage me in a political discussion of ANY kind, regarding ANY relatively democratic nation, I’ll refer them to this comic.
Because you CAN substitute Steve-O, or ANY politician for that matter. This comic is a truism.
Congrats, Ash – I think this page should be immortalized for future reference; they should pay you royalties and use the image you’ve created in encyclopedia entries for things like “filibuster” and “campaign speech”.
I know *I* am gonna bookmark it.
You, milady, doth rock.
