A Few Generations Ago
So this comic isn’t reality *yet*… By that I mean that my eyesight has always been perfect my whole life, but I’ve always thought I look REALLY good with glasses (even in elementary school), so I’ve been preying that one day my eyes would weaken and that I would NEED to wear glasses instead of being a poser that wears them for fun (which I am completely guilty of already). The comic itself was sparked by a conversation Steve and I had months ago when he told me he had laser eye surgery to rid himself of his glasses, to which I replied “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT??!” It got me thinking of how this generation is probably one of the first to think glasses are “cool” instead of “nerdy” or “sophisticated” and I figured I may as well pop it in to a comic.
side note: It would appear that it’s becoming a bit harder for me to focus on my computer screen so perhaps this comic will be reality sooner rather than later.

Haha very true.

How true. I remember when I was one of the only two people in my school who had to wear glasses. It was like having a target painted on your face. Now I think I only know two or three people who don’t wear glasses or contacts. All I have to say to that is that I wore them before they were popular.

One thing you also need to remember about “way back then” was that the kinds of frames people wore were really bad for their facial types. And if you required thick lenses, the kinds of frames you could have were limited to the really ugly kind. Now, even someone whose eyesight is terrible like mine (I needed glasses when I was in the third grade) can were wire-rimmed glasses with ease, and they look great.

When I was first given glasses, it was in the middle of the school day, so I had to go back to school (of course). When I returned, it turned out all the pupils in my year were having a ballroom-dancing class, in the gym… so all eyes were on me when I opened the door and went in. AWKWARD >.< Cue years of "speccy four-eyes" 'jokes'…

Oh, and I love how the doctor’s casually smoking a cigarette in the exam room.

Just realized it’s the same Doctor in both panels…
This is why I require copious amounts of coffee before beginning any kind of thought process. :p

This is some of a response to the comic, and some to the comments. To quote Felicia Day, “Your black-rim glasses are prescription free/whereas me. . . I literally can’t see my hand in front of my face.”
Anyway, welcome to the club, Ash! We have cookies. Although, you might have enough cookies already.

All my life I’ve been ridiculed for wearing glasses; then I have lasic surgery; and suddenly they are cool?
Not fair…

Heh, just found out I could use a pair of glasses two days ago and my response was much the same as yours would be. I fake being upset but really i get to have a cool fashion accessory. I went with librarian chic. A little bit of Giles can go a long way.
