Face Value
This comic is inspired by my first visit to Los Angeles. The grocery store prices are FAR different from the ones in Canada, and more often than not the product is much larger (and sweeter). The cinnamon buns for three dollars were an actual sale price I stumbled upon and i actually went as far as to pick them up and start walking away from the stand before I said to myself, “Wait… if I buy these, I’m just going to eat ALL of them… i don’t want twelve cinnamon buns, i’m only buying them because they’re cheap!” and I put them back.
All I can say is: I get it now, America… I get it.

Scrap a little cinnamon off of them, put a little lettuce on top and say its a salad bun. Then eat them all! (take the crappy little lettuce off though). I will confess though that i am British and don’t really know what a cinnamon bun is, maybe that isn’t how they work.

Just to help you out, Sherlock: A cinnamon bun has the cinnamon in it. And it’s also covered with sticky frosting (icing) – actually, pretty much like you see in panel 2

They sound tasty, i want one. I think we do have a cinnabon at a local shopping centre.

I come a cross this same “problem” when I got to Belfast. Cheaper food means you want to buy more. It’s a curse really.
I also like how Steve is only figuring out now that his face makes no sense.

The thing that threw me for a loop when I was in the States was being able to just buy a bottle of wine at the grocery store.
I drank a lot when I was there.

I ardently insist that my face has value.

it has value… but does it make sense? 0_o

It does make sense but not in the context of the comic, maybe with some makeup.
Also amazing how you draw sad faces, I felt a pang of sadness on that last panel you are a mean woman but cinnamon buns are awesome, so let’s call this one a draw.

Yeah it actually is the grocery store. the bad stuff is cheaper and the healthy stuff is more expensive. therefore…… i lost my point now i just want a cinnamon bun

Honestly, I do think this has a HUGE influence on why America is so obese compared to the rest of the planet. It’s not just that we crave junk food more than the rest of the world, it’s that it’s so damned cheap and easy to get. Healthy food costs considerably more. Based on what I saw when I went to Canada for my wedding, if we priced our junk food the way Canada does, we’d still be a fat country, no question; but I think we’d be a hell of lot less so.
